About the course
From the very start of their lives, children continue to grow and develop and learn as well. There are many milestones through which a child’s development can be measured, namely - social, emotional and physical, language and intellectual development. Each child will develop at different rates, which is why it is important that the teaching practices for the development of children should be able to address simultaneously to the different developmental areas.
This course will take approximately 180 hours to complete. This course helps you to gain knowledge in communication and in professional relationships with children, their parents and adults. It teaches you to promote equality and diversity when working with children and adults. This course gives you a detailed view about how the schools uphold their values and aims. The course also provides with a good idea about school policies and procedures.

- Legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
- Knowing what to do when children are ill or injured
- Knowing how to respond to evidence or concerns of abuse, harm or bullying
UNIT 3: COMMUNICATION AND PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH CHILDREN, YOUNG PEOPLE AND ADULTS (UNIT LEVEL: 2; GLH: 15 HOURS; CREDITS: 2)

- Understanding the impact of prejudice and discrimination on children and young people

UNIT 5: SCHOOLS AS ORGANISATIONS (UNIT LEVEL: 3; GLH: 15 HOURS; CREDITS: 3)
- Different types of schools in the education sector
- How schools are organised in terms of roles and responsibilities
- Understanding how schools uphold their aims and values
- Laws and codes of practice affecting work in schools
- Range and purpose of school policies and procedures
- Wider context in which schools operate
