Nurturing development in the Specific Areas of the EYFS (0-3 years)

This brief, CACHE endorsed program explores the early child development in the Specific Areas of the EYFS: Literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design, covering an age group of birth to 3 years. It emphasises and suggests activities and communications that explores the various activities and interactions that fosters the right skills and enables parents and early years practitioners to ensure the right development in babies and toddlers they look after.


Learning outcomes

You will know the expected developmental milestones for the Specific Areas of the EYFS for babies and toddler aged 0-3 years
You will know that whilst the focus in the 0-3 years age group should be on the Prime Areas, developing in the Specific Areas supports overall development and it is never too early to lay the foundations for literacy, maths, understanding the world, and art and design
You will understand how a close bond between caregiver and child will enable them to thrive in their early years and beyond
You will be able to nurture development through play, reading, singing, talking, and other activities at home or in your early years setting

If you know how to nurture development and form close bonds with a young child, then you will help the child develop important life skills, positive traits, and positive relationships with other adults in the future. This course suggests activities, interactions, and tips for working with young children that will help you make a positive impact on their young life.
There are 9 wonderful videos by Born Smart showing good practice in interacting with children aged 11 - 36 months. They show either a mother or father interacting with their child, but the interactions can also be tried by early years practitioners.
Additional activities, and a Case Study, encourages you to reflect on your learning and put it into practice
There is also suggested extended learning that gives both practical information, links to websites to expand knowledge, and 2 extra videos from Born Smart for an 8-month-old baby and a 26-month-old toddler.

On successful completion of this course, you will have the option of purchasing a CACHE certificate. This certificate must not be confused with nationally regulated qualification achievement.
